Dr. Naber’s awards and recognitions. affirm the collective work and community-based relationships at the heart of her projects. They are an acknowledgment of research and activism that emerges in partnership with community-based researchers, movement lawyers and social movements and policy processes.

Summary

Dr. Naber has received numerous awards for her research, including The MacArthur Foundation Community-Based Research Award (2023); Carl Bode-Norman Holmes Pearson Lifetime Achievement Prize, American Studies Association (2022); Andrew W. Mellon Humanities without Walls Grand Research Challenge Award (2021); and YWCA’s (2020).

She is the recipient of the Arab American Book Award (Arab American National Museum) and grants, awards, and recognitions from the Russell Sage Foundation, the Open Societies Foundation; and the Ford Foundation, the OpEd Project (Exceptional Leaders in the Community); and the Silver Circle Teaching Award. She serves as a Distinguished Speaker for the American Studies Association. In 2024, she received the distinguished title, University Scholar, from the University of Illinois system which “recognizes outstanding members of the faculty” and “represents recognition of their excellence.”
